George Saville delighted with Wolves goal record

Match-winner George Saville says he's delighted to be in the goals for Wolves – as he spoke of his optimism for next season.

Since returning to the first-team in January after 15 months out of favour, Saville has scored five goals in 19 appearances.

It's a run that has pleased boss Kenny Jackett, who sees Saville as a key cog in his midfield next year.

Saville notched twice in the 2-1 win over Derby at Molineux, and also scored in the 2-1 victory at MK Dons, as well as a consolation goal as Leeds beat Wolves by the same scoreline.

Of his goalscoring record he said: "It's great, I'm really pleased to be scoring goals.

"I didn't have a target in mind (for this season), I just wanted to get the games under my belt and cement a place in the team which hopefully I've done.

"Goals are a bonus and they're obviously important. A goalscoring midfielder, they're hard to come around."

He hasn't been short of chances either, and indeed also hit the post a minute before his 35th-minute strike against Sheffield Wednesday.

Is it something he's been working on in training?

"I just think I'm developing more as a player as I get older and more experienced," Saville said.

"I've been making it into the box a lot more compared to previous seasons, I'm getting myself in good positions.

"We've got good players around us, for example Matt Doherty, he put me right in front of the goal and I just had to do the rest."

As for the future, the 22-year-old believes there's plenty of potential in the Wolves team, and that with a couple of signings they can enjoy a more successful 2016/17.

"I just don't think we've got the balance right this season," he said of Wolves' mid-table finish.

"We missed that speed and attack going forward, we've lacked goals obviously, we've missed the likes of Nouha Dicko, Bakary Sako and Benik Afobe, they were quick and powerful and scored goals.

"We stuck on in there and there are positives to take into the summer, a few alterations and who knows where that can take us.

"We've got a lot of potential, there are loads of us that are 23 or below – hopefully we can push on next season.

"I'm optimistic, why not. We've got a few good players here and a lot of potential. With one or two additions I think we could have a good season."
