Danny Batth: Wolves will strive to improve

Captain Danny Batth insists there's a collective determination to go one better at Wolves next season.

And the defender feels that new additions - and the return of injured players - can turn draws into victories for Kenny Jackett's team.

Wolves bring the curtain down on a frustrating season at home to Batth's former loan club Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow.

And the 25-year-old told the Express & Star he's certain that better times are ahead in the near future for Wolves.

"Hopefully with signings – and Dicko, Jordan and Zyro coming back – we can be up there and with the right mix can have a good go," Batth said.

"(The recent draws) tell us we're not far away but three points is always better than one.

"It's a big job in the summer for the powers-that-be to bring in the right players to maybe swing it from draws to wins."

Batth has been pleased with his own recent form, which he feels has improved as the season has gone on after a difficult start owing to his recovery from a foot injury.

He admits collectively it's been a 'tricky' campaign for a young squad, but that they're all determined to improve next season.

"There's a collective determination," he said. "Everyone's determined to go better than this season. That comes from the top as well.

"We've obviously lost a few key players in the past 12 months.

"The lads have done as well as they can and it's been tricky for all of us, there's been a lot of injuries and a lot of new young players, it's just getting the right balance."

Batth has been paired with Dominic Iorfa at centre half in the past two games, a partnership he feels has gone well.

He also feels he's improved as a player - and a leader - in a difficult campaign for the team.

"I'd like to think I've improved as a player this season," he said.

"A second season in the Championship has helped me and I'd like to feel I've grown into the role of captain. It's a positive for myself.

"There's been times I've had to say bits and pieces, either collectively or individually.

"Being a voice on the pitch is important and I feel that's one of my strengths.

"In terms of coming back and hopefully having a fresh impetus next year, for myself it'll be maintaining a level of fitness and hit the ground running next season, so it's not five or six games into the season, it's straight away."
