Hull boss Steve Bruce: We got away with it

Steve Bruce admitted his Hull City side 'weren't good enough' against Wolves - and were fortunate to win all three points.

The Tigers have been on a rotten run of late, winning just one of nine games to slip way behind the top two.

Robert Snodgrass' last-gasp free kick deflected off Carl Ikeme to keep Hull's very faint automatic promotion hopes alive with a 2-1 win at the KC Stadium.

But Bruce was far from happy with his side's performance.

"If we're honest, we've got away with one," he said.

"It wasn't good enough. The second half was really not acceptable for us.

"Let's hope it's the spark that reignites us again.

"Make no mistake we found it very, very difficult again to put in a performance that you need.

"To be fair for the first 20 minutes I saw that spark.

"We got a bit of a gifted goal, we should have had a penalty, Abel's onside when he's through, so big decisions have gone against us.

"And unfortunately they'be pegged us back with the only mistake we've made in the first half.

Despite the win the play-offs seem the most likely prospect for the Tigers, who are eight points behind second-placed Brighton with a game in hand, despite having led the Championship table just six weeks ago.

Bruce, who has been heavily linked with the Villa job, said all his players were struggling to find form.

"We have got a very good squad on paper but they have to start to perform," he added.

"And at the moment all of them are finding it difficult to perform to the level which I know they're capable of.

"We've lost that spark that made us a really good team. We'll get it back, I just hope it's not too late."
