Wolves' Carl Ikeme picks up illness on international duty

Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme could be a doubt for Saturday's clash with Ipswich after withdrawing  from international duty due to illness.

The shot-stopper has pulled out of Nigeria's crunch African Cup on Nations qualifier away at Egypt tomorrow.

He featured in the first game between the two teams in Nigeria on Friday and made a string of saves in a 1-1 draw.

But Ikeme has picked up a stomach bug and, after missing two training sessions, has withdrawn from the squad.

It is not yet known if the illness will keep him out of the visit of Mick McCarthy's Ipswich to Molineux on Saturday, but his involvement must be in doubt.

Nigeria team doctor Ibrahim Gyaran is quoted as saying: "After the game last Friday, Carl has been struggling with some stomach upset and it has not allowed him train with the rest of the squad.

"He is stable but needs a lot of rest to be back in 100 per cent shape for the kind of high profile game that we have on Tuesday. Considering the amount of travel involved as well, it is best we give him a break."

Coach Samson Siasia added: "We will surely miss Carl, but the good thing with our team is that we have capable replacements in every department."

After being dropped by Kenny Jackett at the start of the season in favour of Emiliano Martinez, Ikeme has been an ever present between the sticks for Wolves since the reverse fixture against Ipswich at Portman Road on November 21.
