It is believed the Bluebirds want a fee of £3 million for the 24-year-old.

Reports elsewhere have suggested the deal is close, however talks are not believed to be that advanced at this stage.

Mason currently has six Championship goals in 24 appearances this season.

Wolves have seen a host of targets fall by the wayside in recent weeks as they search for Benik Afobe's replacement, following his £10m move to Bournemouth.

Mason began his career with his home town club Plymouth Argyle making 53 Football League appearances. While at Cardiff he scored in the 2012 Football League Cup Final against Liverpool and helped win promotion to the Premier League.

They are known to have enquired about Conor Washington and Yann Kermorgant, but the forwards have moved to Championship rivals QPR and Reading respectively.

Zach Clough, Nakhi Wells and Jason Cummings are also believed to have been on their short-list.
