Kenny Jackett: We have to raise our game
"We need to raise our game. We know what we have to do." Kenny Jackett knows Wolves have to make big improvements from their recent form.
Certainly from Tuesday night, when an insipid display resulted in a deserved 1-0 defeat.
Wolves have been consistent only in their inconsistency this, but a run of four defeats from five games is threatening to derail their play-off hopes – and has put Jackett's position in question for many supporters.
The boss, though, was showing no signs of such pressure ahead of the Burnley visit.
"We're looking forward to getting back to Molineux, hopefully that can help us, it's up to us to earn the crowd's backing," he said.
"When fans see a wide range of variation of performance... if there's any criticisms I have to accept it. Opportunity to put it right is another thing and on Saturday at home to Burnley we have an opportunity to put some passion in our performance and pose the opposition more problems than we did on Tuesday."
Wolves find themselves in a similar situation to a couple of weeks ago, when a dreadful performance and result against Brentford was followed by a visit from one of the Championships better teams, in Middlesbrough.
They lost that day, too, but were unfortunate to do so after a much-improved display. Jackett will have eyes purely on a victory by whatever means tomorrow.
"If we play to our potential we can get a result against anybody," he said.
"Similarly if we don't get our game right, if we don't play to our maximum, then it becomes very difficult to earn points, particularly on a regular basis.
"Burnley will be strong, they've been a good side in the Championship for a number of years. They've made a strong start, they have good players in every area."
Two Championship managers – Chris Powell at Huddersfield and Chris Ramsey at QPR – have lost their jobs this week.
Does Jackett feel bosses in the cut-throat division are given enough time? "We're in a privileged position," he said. "Certainly the average tenure of a head coach/manager for the Championship isn't very long, it's the highest turnover out of the four leagues traditionally.
"We understand that the stakes are very high. If you don't get results, pressure can build up very quickly."
