Emiliano Martinez: First goal will be vital

Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez admits Wolves weren't good enough at Bristol City on Tuesday – and says they need to score first against Burnley tomorrow.

Martinez kept a welcome clean sheet last weekend in the 2-0 victory over Blues at St Andrew's, but a poor 1-0 defeat at Ashton Gate followed.

And the Argentine, who has welcomed the addition of Mike Williamson – I think we needed someone like that', he said – believes the team's results are more important than his individual performances.

"It has been a tough time for us with four losses and only one win on Saturday," he said. "Having played really well on Saturday we thought we would be able to do the same on Tuesday and get on the front foot but we didn't do that.

"In this league anyone can beat anyone.

"We have to move on now and have to get three points at home tomorrow.

"I need to do my job and keep the ball out of the net – that is my target.

"It is really disappointing. When you do a good job and make some good saves the main thing is that you want the team get results.

"We are back at home tomorrow and need to try and get the three points and move ourselves up the table."

Tomorrow's high-flying opponents will offer another stern test.

Ahead of a two-week international break, three points are vital for a struggling Wolves team.

Martinez added: "Burnley is going to be a tough game, like Middlesbrough was, and Brighton.

"We need to score first and be compact because they are very dangerous on the counter attack.

"When we play the top teams we seem to be able to play well but we have to do that in every game."
