Scott Sellars lays down gauntlet to Eusebio Bancessi

Wolves Under-21s boss Scott Sellars has challenged promising forward Eusebio Bancessi to win a place in the first-team.

The 20-year-old winger or striker played a starring role for Sellars' side as they slipped to a 3-2 defeat at Swansea on Monday night.

Despite the disappointing result, the match saw skipper Danny Batth complete 90 minutes as he builds his way back up to full fitness.

But it was Eusebio who proved to be the star of the show, scoring two goals and almost netting a third following a superb solo run.

And with head coach Kenny Jackett short of senior strikers in the wake of Nouha Dicko's long-term injury, Sellars has reminded Eusebio the path to the first-team is there.

"I thought Eusebio was excellent against Swansea," Sellars said. "He scored a great goal and a penalty and was a threat and could have got another one or two as well. In his first year before I was here, I'd been told he did very well and then last year he was okay but had one or two injuries and never really got going.

"But I said to him after the game that this is his standard.

"Over the last two games he has looked a really good player with a lot of pace and power and the ability to create things."

Eusebio, who joined Wolves from Benfica in 2013, signed a

new contract last year, keeping him with the club until at least 2017.

"He has to keep doing what he has been doing to catch the gaffer's eye," Sellers added. "Kenny was watching at Swansea and the club is very supportive in making sure the players get watched and the players can see there is that interest and a clear route towards the first team.

"Whether you are training with the first team or playing in games when the gaffer is watching, if you play well then you can get into his eye."

Sellars has now told his players to move on quickly from the defeat against the Swans with the young Wolves' said back in action against Arsenal on Friday.

The match will be played at AFC Telford United's New Bucks Head stadium with a 7pm kick-off.

"Against Swansea, on the day we didn't do enough to get the third goal and get a point," Sellars said. "Overall, I thought the performance was okay, I didn't think we were great but I didn't think we were poor either.

"Arsenal are obviously a great club and that is a game we are really looking forward to.

"We had two good games with them last year, drawing 2-2 at home and getting beat 4-0 down there when we caught by a few sucker punches.

"They have started really well and we have made a decent start so we are really looking forward to it.

"Hopefully we can get a few fans down there to watch the lads on Friday."
