Wolves goalkeeper Aaron McCarey today joined League Two side Portsmouth on a 28-day loan with their bases covered between the sticks.

McCarey, who was given a four-month ban in the summer for failing a drugs test, has gone back to third-choice and will be farmed out.

He was needed after Tomasz Kuszczak left the club, but Wolves have borrowed Emiliano Martinez from Arsenal to compete with Carl Ikeme.

The 23-year-old Irishman will go into the starting line-up at Pompey, who have Brian Murphy, Paul Jones and Michael Poke all out injured.

They were considering using free agent Darryl Flahavan to solve their crisis, but the impending arrival of McCarey now eases their shortage.

Portsmouth and Wolves have good relations from the summer, when Jed Wallace moved from Fratton Park to Molineux for £275,000.
