Wolves boss Kenny Jackett said after Saturday's goalless draw with Brighton that he would examine different camera angles of the incident.
The club today agreed to take Coady's punishment, as Edwards was ruled out for several weeks with a knee injury.
Edwards has been captain in the absence of Danny Batth and since the sale of Richard Stearman.
He picked up the knock in the early stages of the 0-0 draw with Brighton on Saturday when fouled by Seagulls midfielder Dale Stephens. The 29-year-old required treatment but played on.
However, tests after the game showed that he hyper-extended his knee and he now faces a spell on the sidelines.
With Conor Coady missing for three games owing to his sending off in the same game, it leaves Wolves short of Kenny Jackett's recent first-choice central midfielders for the rest of the month.
And Jackett could also be without Emiliano Martinez, Kortney Hause and Scott Golbourne for tomorrow's Capital One Cup trip to Middlesbrough.
