It was one of the most important moments in Wolves' history – Cullis taking over as manager.

And now history has repeated itself, with Cullis once again appointed as manager of Wolves.

More than 50 years after Stan was sacked as Wolves boss, his cousin's grandson has been hired to run the club's women's team.

Stan Cullis was of course the most successful manager in Molineux history, winning three league titles and two FA Cups between 1949 and 1960.

And his distant relative said he was 'honoured' to be appointed.

Steve previously managed the reserve team at Wolves Women and has now stepped up as first team manager.

He temporarily took charge towards the end of last season after the departure of Trevor Mullings.

The Wolves Girls & Women's committee said they were impressed with Cullis' hunger and desire to move the club forward.

And Cullis said: "I'm honoured to be appointed into this role, I'm looking forward to getting started.

"The final few games of last season showed me that we have the ability to get out of the league we have found ourselves in. It's time to rebuild and put the club back on the map."

Cullis will have club captain Anna Perks alongside him at player-assistant manager.

The new boss added: "Anna's introduction into the coaching team, just builds on the great work she has done as club captain in the last few seasons.

"She is a great role model and her experience will be vital over the course of a season."

There will be no reserve team this year with Cullis and the committee deciding it would be detrimental to do so.

His grandfather's cousin's exploits will forever be remembered at Molineux.

Cullis was hired in 1948 and oversaw Wolves' rise to the very top of the English game.

The team won the FA Cup at the end of his first season in charge, beating Leicester City 3-1.

Under Cullis Wolves won league championships in 1954, 1958 and 1959, the only three top-flight titles in their history.

They also finished runners-up in 1950, 1955 and 1960 and were regarded as one of the best teams in world football.

The Stan Cullis stand was opened at Molineux in 1992 and a statue of the great man was unveiled outside it in 2003, two years after his death.
