Sylvain Deslandes thrilled to be at Molineux
Strong, powerful, quick and technically gifted – that's the Wolves verdict on French teenage signing Sylvain Deslandes.
The 18-year-old defender has been snapped up as one for the future after joining from French top-flight side Caen.
Deslandes can play at left-back or in central defence and has signed a two-year contract with an option for another season. He will link up with his new team-mates on July 1 when his Caen contract expires.
A French youth international, Deslandes will initially be with the under-21 squad for next season.
He has hailed the move as a 'dream come true' and spoke of his amazement at the facilities on offer at Molineux and Compton Park.
"I am very happy," he said. "It's a dream for me to come to England and I'm delighted with the confidence the club have shown in me.
"I've never seen facilities like the ones here at Wolves, they are top of the range."
Deslandes is Wolves' second summer signing after the arrival of Portsmouth midfielder Jed Wallace.
And there are likely to be more to come with Kenny Jackett keen to add first-team players before the transfer window shuts.
Wolves have been scouting Deslandes for a while and believe he has the right characteristics to succeed.
Head of football development and recruitment Kevin Thelwell said
: "He's a player that we've seen a lot of playing for Caen and the French national teams. He's a natural left-footed defender, can play left-back or left side centre-back.
"He's got pace, he's powerful, he's strong, he's got good technique and we think if we can work on all of those assets then there's no reason why he can't make positive steps forward.
"You only have to look at him to know he's equipped to deal with the physical nature of English football.
"He's also come from a good academy so, technically, he's very gifted."
