The 28-year-old today revealed he is on schedule to return from a broken bone in his foot by early April.

Ikeme has missed eight games since suffering the injury in training. He is set to be absent for at least the next three matches to take him up to Easter.

But he is hopeful of returning to training imminently, saying: "Probably three weeks is a realistic target.

"If it's before then that would be brilliant, but I don't want to rush things, I want to make sure I'm right when I come back.

"I feel really good though but at the same time I have to be cautious.

"It would be brilliant if I could get back and be involved again to hopefully get in the play-offs.

"That's the focus – to get in the play-offs – and I fully back everyone to do it."

Ikeme faces a testing week as he prepares to kick a ball for the first time since the accidental injury.

It happened when he was involved with a block tackle on James Henry in training five weeks ago.

He said: "Kicking will be the last thing I do because that will put the most pressure on it and I'll probably be trying that this week.

"That will see if I can kick on a bit more and if I get through that, we'll assess what I'll be able to do the following week."

Ikeme, who has been at Molineux for 12 years, believes he will return stronger, saying: "All my hard work in the gym will ultimately pay off on the pitch. I feel really strong.

"It couldn't have gone better. You don't like to be injured but it's given me a chance to work on things in the gym and hopefully I'll come back better for it.

"I've been working hard and I feel really good."
