The impressive shot-stopper, who has been an ever-present in the Championship this season, has broken the second metatarsal on his foot in training.

Head coach Kenny Jackett said this afternoon: "He's out for six to eight weeks after breaking his second metatarsal following a training ground accident.

"It was a block tackle with James Henry, where he was caught on the top of his foot. He's been for a scan today to assess the extent of it, after it's settled down."

Ikeme was wearing a protective boot at Sir Jack Hayward's funeral on Tuesday, shortly after sustaining the injury in training that day and initially thought there was no further damage.

His absence means an opening for Tomasz Kuszczak, who has been patiently waiting for an opening since he joined the club as a free agent in October.

Jackett confirmed the experienced former West Brom and Manchester United custodian will replace Ikeme in the starting line-up for Saturday's visit of Reading.

Either fit-again Aaron McCarey or Jonathan Flatt will be on the bench.Wolves have their re-arranged Birmingham Senior Cup tie at Nuneaton also on Saturday, and either McCarey or Flatt will play there.
