Old Wolves favourites are reunited in Codsall

Wolves favourites Steve Daley and Steve Kindon today urged fans to be patient after they were reunited in Wolverhampton.

The pair, team-mates for five years in the 1970s, headlined an event at the Firs Club in Codsall, in association with the Central Midlands Ex-Boxers Association.

Daley, who broke the British transfer record when leaving Wolves to join Manchester City for £1,437,500 in 1979, is a regular guest of the club on match-days.

He said: "I see a lot of Wolves, as I go to speak to people in the hospitality suites before games, and have done question and answer sessions with Kenny Jackett.

"He's got a great set of players and knows exactly what he wants. He's building a reputation for fantastic football, he's a good manager and a great guy.

"The expectations at the club are very high, but they are still regrouping and it will take time."

Daley hosted the event with Kindon, who has now moved to Lytham St Annes in Lancashire, the guest speaker. The 63-year-old was known as 'the Tank' during his career as a bull-dozing attacker.

He said: "I used to be a football fanatic, but now I feel like a part-timer. I watch five games a year at Molineux, Huddersfield Town, Burnley, Bolton and Blackpool, so it's still about 20 matches.

"I watch the Football League show religiously - that's when my wife is not allowed in the living room! To be honest, I am pleasantly surprised with Wolves this season.

"I believe mid-table would have been success, but they find themselves near the top of the league. It's a real bonus for them. Can they keep it up? I hope so, but it's a big ask."

Daley still lives in Codsall as does his wife, three children and 10 grand-children, the 61-year-old first moving to the village when finishing his playing career at Walsall in 1985-86.

He added: "People ask me if I would change anything about my career and there's just one thing - I should have stayed at Wolves."
