Wolves Under-21 1 Middlesbrough Under-21 2
First-teamers Michael Jacobs and Tommy Rowe couldn't prevent second-best Wolves Under-21s suffering their third defeat in four games at Molineux.
Both got much-needed 90 minutes in the clash with Middlesbrough and Rowe levelled for Wolves with a stylish finish nine minutes after the break.
But the visitors had the best of the chances last night, with Jordan Jones and Andrew Halliday firing off target before Jacobs was inches away with a free-kick.
Boro returned to the attack and Thomas McAloon forced Aaron McCarey to smother then George Swan blocked Jones's follow-up.
Wolves conceded from their own corner after 21 minutes, Bryn Morris surging forward and squaring for Lewis Maloney to slot under a furious McCarey, who had been left with only Swan as cover.
McCarey was clearly unhappy with Eusebio Bancessi, accusing him of failing to track back, and the winger appeared to lose all focus after that, soon going off citing a knee injury.
Wolves wasted the chance to level when Connor Hunte's point-blank effort was blocked after Liam McAlinden squared.
Dominic Iorfa headed over and Andrew Halliday was inches away while Jacobs dribbled in from the left only to fire out for a throw-in when trying to find the top corner from a tight angle just before half-time.
Rowe equalised with the first chance of the second period, perfectly positioned to neatly volley home Ben O'Hanlon's excellent cross.
But that was as good as it got for Wolves, with McCarey receiving two chipped teeth for his troubles in separate aerial clashes.
Substitute Mark Kitching grabbed the 89th-minute winner for Boro, side-footing home a right-wing cross.
