Danny Batth wants more goals for Wolves

Defender Danny Batth has become the latest Wolves player to target more goals after getting off the mark in midweek.

The captain scored his first goal of the season to earn Wolves a point at Charlton in Tuesday's 1-1 Championship draw to satisfy head coach Kenny Jackett's mantra for the goals to be spread throughout the side.

George Saville and now Lee Evans have gone public in recent days to declare their aim to get on the scoresheet more.

Now Brierley Hill-born Batth, whose 65th-minute header cancelled out Andre Bikey's 25th-minute opener at the Valley, has joined them to try to ease the goalscoring burden. "I'd been working on my headers and it's been a while coming," said the 23-year-old.

"It was a good delivery from James Henry and I managed to capitalise on it.

"I've set myself a target of chipping in with a few more goals.

"It's early days but there are lads that have played at this level before and we have a lot of belief we can carry on progressing and improving as a unit."

Jackett's decision to bring on striker Nouha Dicko for Saville at the break in midweek galvanised Wolves, with Leon Clarke dropping into a slightly deeper role.

And Batth believes Wolves were unlucky not to go on and claim maximum points.

"The gaffer made the decision to change things at half-time and I think it worked out and we finished the stronger team," said Batth.

"Charlton play a tactical game and we had to come up with something different to get a positive result.

"We had to keep the back door shut and they had a few little half chances but I think the game was working our way and on another day we might have scored two or three.

"You could see why Charlton have done well at home this season – they were a well-oiled machine who take a lot of pride in their defending and we came up with something different and showed a different dimension."

Wolves responded with one of their brightest performances of the season to go into tomorrow's game at home to Bolton in confident mood.

"If we can keep continuing in that vein there is every chance we can go to places like that and pick up three points," said the skipper.
