Jonathan Flatt signs new Wolves contract
Promising teenage goalkeeper Jonathan Flatt is aiming to emulate the likes of Matt Murray and Wayne Hennessey after signing a new Wolves contract.
The 19-year-old has penned a two-year deal at Molineux, with a further year's option in the club's favour.
Wolves are well stocked in the goalkeeping department with Carl Ikeme being backed up by Aaron McCarey.
But Flatt is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Murray and Hennessey who progressed from the academy into the first team.
"Talks have been going on for a few weeks, and I'm delighted to have agreed a new contract," said Wolverhampton-born Flatt.
"There have been some great goalkeepers to have come through in the last 10 years or so with the likes of Matt Murray, Wayne Hennessey and Carl Ikeme.
"So with the great coaching and the quality of the goalkeepers that are here, there is every opportunity to try and improve."
"I really enjoyed making a couple of first-team appearances during pre-season, but am now looking forward to continuing my development."
The keeper has been with the Wolves Academy since the age of eight and, having been an unused substitute for the first team last season, was part of the pre-season tour in Ireland and made his senior bow against Bohemians.
And head of football development and recruitment Kevin Thelwell is keen to see the shot-stopper continue to develop.
"Jon has been at Wolves for a very long time, and we have been very pleased with his progress coming through the Academy," he said.
"He is a talented, young goalkeeper who we have high hopes for. It was good to see him with the first team on the tour in Ireland.
"With the new contract now agreed, Jon can focus on working hard to continue his development."
