Wolves in a strong pack hunting for Callum Wilson deal
Wolves boss Kenny Jackett returned to his desk today ready to continue attempts to sign No 1 strike target Callum Wilson – as the rival bidders were revealed.
The League One champions are one of four clubs interested in the 22-year-old Coventry hotshot, along with Brentford, Norwich and Bournemouth, who have had two bids rejected for Wilson.
Wolves believe the Sky Blues' valuation of between £2m-£3m is too high for a player who has only had one full season in League One.
It's understood Coventry won't consider a bid unless it is over £3m.
What's not clear at present is how much each club has offered for Wilson, with all bidders keen to keep valuations secret to prevent the price escalating.
But like their pursuit of Sheffield United defender Harry Maguire, Wolves – whose head coach has just returned from holiday – are attempting to play the 'long game' to avoid paying over the odds for their main targets. And it would be against the principles of chief executive Jez Moxey to become embroiled in a bidding war.
But Coventry boss Steven Pressley is expecting interest to hot up for his prize asset.
He said: "The current situation is he's not for sale, but when you've got four clubs involved the bidding can become very aggressive. But the situation is Callum is a player we don't want to lose and is an integral part of what we want to create here."
The Sky Blues have rejected two bids from Bournemouth, who sold their top-scorer, Lewis Grabban, to Norwich for £3m. It's understood Canaries boss Neil Adams is keen to link Grabban up with Wilson.
