Wolves set Premier League promotion target
Bullish Kenny Jackett today declared Wolves' sole aim next season is promotion to the Premier League.
The Molineux head coach is confidently planning a second successive climb after winning the League One title at a canter this season.
Jackett feels with the current squad plus the three or four signings he is working on and the resources and facilities at his disposal that Wolves have as much chance as anyone at making the top flight in 12 months' time.
"When we come back on June 25, the first thing I'll say to that group of players is 'the reason we're here is to get promoted this year'," said the boss.
"That's the reason why we're coming to work here and it's not something we should be frightened of saying we're trying to do.
"Then we have to work out how we're going to do that.
"We have to go in with confidence and as a very positive club because we're as capable as anybody else.
"It's a realistic ambition for a club that's been in the Premier League so recently."
Jackett realises so many factors must come into play if Wolves are to be promoted again.
But he is confident that with the right planning, the ambitious target can be achieved.
"We have to make sure our ideals and our goals are right - there's no point being consistent in goals that take the club in the wrong direction," he said.
"We need to be as professional as possible in terms of our preparation, be as physically fit and mentally hungry as we possibly can, and enjoy working at being the best side we can be in trying to improve.
"We need a good disciplinary record and a good injury record.
"We have to be as prepared as we possibly can to make sure next season is a good one."
Jackett believes Wolves must maximise their Compton Park training ground and make the advantage count on the pitch.
"The facilities are first class but there's no point in having it at a massive expense - that has to turn into points," he said.
"It compares with, or is better than most in the Championship.
"There's a reason it's here - to make you better prepared than anybody else.
"If there's one, two or three per cent advantage we can get out of having a better training ground and being better prepared, we have to."
