Wolves deserve record says Andy Thompson
Andy Thompson has urged Wolves to become record-breakers tonight insisting: "You deserve it".
'Thommo' was part of the last Wolves team to win eight games in a row, in November 1988, and is now a regular in the press box as a summariser for local radio.
Tonight he will join the 2,000-strong exodus at Swindon hoping his team make history.
"I think they've got a good chance of doing it because of the confidence of the players, and with the run they're on and the way they're playing, they deserve it," said Cannock-born Thompson, who lives in Cheslyn Hay and played 451 games for Wolves from 1986-97.
"I want to see Wolves back in the Championship and higher, so good on them – it would be a great achievement."
Thommo and his team-mates saw their run end in a Sunday game at Northampton where they lost 3-1. But he doesn't see Kenny Jackett's side faltering yet, adding: "I hope they can get the record and then get a couple more wins because I want more success."
Thommo's team had the devastating firepower of Steve Bull and Andy Mutch, and the 46-year-old now believes Jackett has hit upon a winning combination up front.
"We knew our strengths and we always knew Bully would get chances and it was a partnership that was formidable whoever we played," he said.
"Before last Christmas and just afterwards, this team weren't putting the chances away and killing teams off, but since Nouha Dicko has come in, we've got that natural scorer."
