Kenny Jackett keeps faith in Wolves' Carl Ikeme

Keeper Carl Ikeme is thrilled at the show of faith from Kenny Jackett which sees him preparing for Saturday's "game of the season" at Brentford.

Ikeme's outstanding form over the first half of the season was enough to persuade the Wolves head coach to recall him at Aaron McCarey's expense last weekend following a six-week injury-enforced absence.

And that leaves the latest in a lengthening line of acclaimed home-reared keepers relishing Saturday's Griffin Park showdown.

"It's nice for me that the gaffer has got faith in me," admits Ikeme. "Everyone wants to play and with how well Aaron was doing I was never really sure.

"Playing in a big game against a top team in your division is always one you want to be involved in.

"The lads have been in good form recently so we'll be going in with a lot of confidence – as I am sure Brentford will."

Ikeme is getting ready for a contest which will dominate the League One spotlight and throw further light on just how far Wolves have travelled after the club's headlong plunge from the Premier League.

The 27-year-old from Birmingham said: "I think everyone at the club has done well all season to get us in this position.

"At times it hasn't been easy, but we have always been in and around the top three and put ourselves in a position to hopefully continue and try and push ourselves over the line.

"There has been some turmoil here in the last couple of years and when you see how it was at the start of the season with players leaving and coming in, I think the gaffer has done a really good job.

"He has managed to make these changes and keep everyone together and help build the good team spirit which we have got now. I think it could have gone the other way.

"Now is the time to kick on and get the job done."
