Wolves striker Kevin Doyle linked with Middlesbrough move
Kevin Doyle today became the latest big-name Wolves player to be linked with a move back to the Championship.
Sources claim Middlesbrough have made a loan enquiry about the 30-year-old forward, who has recently lost his place in Kenny Jackett's line-up.
Jackett has made no secret of the fact he wants to further strengthen his attack after completing a £300,000 deal for Nouha Dicko yesterday.
Doyle is by far Wolves' highest earner at £40,000-a-week, but Wolves have refused to contribute to their players leaving to play for higher-ranked clubs who have contributed to their double relegation.
Any deal would almost certainly follow the pattern of previous agreements.
Roger Johnson and Stephen Ward went on loan to Sheffield Wednesday and Brighton respectively after agreeing to take a pay cut.
Boro' last such big earner was Scott McDonald at £30,000-a-week but the 30-year-old striker joined Millwall in July.
The Teessiders are 13th but are the second-highest scorers in the Championship under Spanish boss Aitor Karanka.
They are currently alternating their one man up front between Lucas Jutkiewicz and Curtis Main, who missed a sitter against Wolves on loan for Shrewsbury.
But they are known to be seeking more presence in their attack and have Doyle's long-term former Ireland team-mate Shay Given in goal.
Doyle has been linked with several big clubs in recent January windows, with Celtic 12 months ago and Everton the year before having loan moves blocked.
