Wolves in talks to sign Wigan striker Nouha Dicko

Wolves were today in talks to re-sign Nouha Dicko from Wigan to boost their firepower.

Dicko and his representative were understood to be at Molineux for this afternoon's 2-0 win against Preston.

It's unclear at the moment whether Wolves were trying to sign the 21-year-old Frenchman, who scored once in a four-match loan spell at Molineux last season, on a permanent move or another loan.

The forward played wide for Wolves last term but has been hugely successful as a striker on loan at Rotherham from where he was recalled early after scoring six goals in six games, including two in the 3-3 draw against Wolves on December 21.

Head coach Kenny Jackett confirmed after the game: "I haven't seen him (Dicko) but he was due here to speak to Kevin Thelwell (Wolves head of football development) about a move. That's the situation."

Wigan boss Uwe Rosler said earlier this week he had received several enquiries about Dicko.

Wolves and Rotherham are thought to be two of the six clubs keen on signing him.

Championship duo Millwall and Bournemouth are also tracking Dicko as well as League One rivals Peterborough, Bristol City and Bradford City.

Dicko, who is out of contract at the end of the season, is thought to be keen on a move if he is not going to be playing regular first-team football.

He has played once since his return to Wigan, coming on as a 75th-minute substitute for James McClean in a 3-3 draw against MK Dons in the FA Cup third round last week.

Paris-born Dicko started his career with Strasbourg and moved to Wigan in August 2011 but has never played a league game for them, with his nine appearances – including just two starts – all coming in the cups.

But he has scored nine goals in 32 games over two loan spells at Blackpool in the last two seasons, including six starts.

And he would offer Wolves something they have desperately lacked up front for several years – genuine pace.

Dicko scored Wolves' final goal of last season when he netted an 88th-minute consolation in the 2-1 home defeat to Burnley on April 27.

His only start came in the final game at Brighton a week later when Wolves went down 2-0 and were relegated.
