Carl Ikeme is number one pick for Wolves boss Kenny Jackett
Wolves head coach Kenny Jackett today warned Wayne Hennessey he wants Carl Ikeme for keeps this season – increasing the chances of the Wales No.1 being sold this summer.
Hennessey was back in a Wolves squad for the first time since April 2012 when he was on the bench in Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Peterborough.
His return has sparked a potential battle of the keepers as they both compete for the first-choice spot.
The Wales shot-stopper has recovered from a double ruptured cruciate ligament to prove his fitness with a 12-match loan stint at Championship side Yeovil.
But Ikeme has been in the form of his life this season and has kept 10 clean sheets so far, while Wolves have conceded the fewest goals in League One.
It brings into question the future of 26-year-old Hennessey who has attracted attention from the likes of Arsenal in the past.
Jackett said: "This season Carl got the first opportunity and he's taken it very well.
"Carl has set some terrific standards and if you can settle down the back four and the keeper during the season and not have to change it, that's fine.
"I'm looking for Carl and the back four to continue the good work they have – the goals against record is very good."
