Danny Batth edges closer to new Wolves contract

Danny Batth is finally edging closer to resolving his Wolves future and signing a new contract, it emerged today.

The Brierley Hill-born defender's agent was at Compton for talks yesterday and it's understood negotiations have stepped up with a view to the centre-back signing a new deal soon.

Batth is out of contract at the end of the season and the club are keen for the 23-year-old to commit his future to Molineux.

The academy graduate, who has been with Wolves since he was nine years old, is one of three ever-presents this season and has emerged as a symbol of the 'new Wolves' being built under head coach Kenny Jackett.

Several weeks ago, Jackett said the ball was in Batth's court but he now says negotiations have restarted. "Danny Batth's representatives and the club are currently in negotiations about a new contract, that is happening," said Jackett.

"Those negotiations are ongoing and we'll see how they go. It's not something that's been pushed aside by the club or anything like that. He's a player we're all very keen on and been pleased with and I think I've picked him in every game which shows what I think of him."

"When Sam Ricketts has been out, Batth has been captain on most occasions, Stearman captaining the team in a cup game when Batth was sub.

"So I'm very pleased with him, I think he has a cracking future and the club and his representatives are negotiating now in terms of talking about a new contract.

"They were in here yesterday and they're in discussions with the club now but like Matt Doherty at the time, I don't know how the talks have gone yet."

Batth had the 12-month option on his contract taken up in April but since last season's relegation he has finally become a regular.

Fellow graduates of the development team Doherty and Aaron McCarey have both committed their long-term futures to the club but there has been no announcement on Batth, fuelling speculation that he has turned down offers to stay.

But Batth remains very much Wolves through and through having become a hugely popular player with the fans, and he is confident an agreement will be reached.
