Kenny Jackett backs Wolves' strikers

Wolves boss Kenny Jackett today insisted he is prepared to continue backing his shadow strikeforce after snubbing Craig Davies – as unwanted Jamie O'Hara returned to Molineux.

Bolton boss Dougie Freedman claimed Wolves performed a U-turn and pulled out of a loan deal for Davies.

The former Wolves striker said: "We had an enquiry for Craig Davies to go to Wolves.

"Then Wolves called us back and said they weren't going ahead with it.

"Burnley asked as well but we'd already told Wolves we were happy for him to go there on a short-term loan."

Jackett, who takes his side to Peterborough tomorrow, admitted Davies was a potential target.

But he said: "For him, no; we discussed bringing him in some time ago but not before this particular window.

"We've scouted him and had reports on him, but if anything was going to happen it would have happened before.

"There were no discussions yesterday about bringing anyone in."

Instead Jackett wants to be convinced Leigh Griffiths, Kevin Doyle, Jake Cassidy and Bjorn Sigurdarson have enough goals in them.

"We want to have a look at some of the forwards we've got and bring them on," he said.

"We have the four we're picking at the moment then Liam McAlinden is on a 24-hour recall so that's good if we get any problems.

"And there's a promising lad in the youth team in Ibraham Keita, who's 18-years-old.

"It would have been nice if Jake or a combination of other forwards had have given us some depth and gained some confidence on Tuesday.

"It's a thin dividing line, because forwards thrive on chances and goals.

"This time last season Jake was the top scorer in League One so I'm sure the goals will come and he'll be an asset.

"And to counter the fact Doyle's coming deep, the wide men get a lot of freedom and have got goals - Sako six and James Henry three, and Michael Jacobs has got into good positions."

O'Hara returned to Wolves after his trial at Blackpool ended yesterday after the Tangerines opted against taking up the proposed loan for him.

It's understood boss Paul Ince wasn't convinced O'Hara's match fitness could see him play enough games over the next month.
