Nottingham Forest reignite Bakary Sako interest

Forest, who failed in a last-ditch bid to sign the French winger on transfer deadline day, are now trying to push through a deal which would see them take the Wolves star on loan and then complete a permanent deal when the January transfer window opens.

Wolves are mindful of Sako's ambitions to play in the Premier League and accept the commercial reality of their position in the proposed deal – but are sticking by their £3.5m valuation of the popular player signed by former boss Stale Solbakken.

The club have yet to receive an offer from Forest to satisfy theose demands and there remain serious doubts at Molineux that the transfer will be completed.

Reports from the east Midlands today suggested that Forest were closing in on a 93-day loan for Sako to be followed by a permanent deal. But this outcome is not yet seen as realistic at Molineux.

A guarded Molineux chief executive Jez Moxey said today: "The situation hasn't changed since Kenny (Jackett) dealt with this issue at a recent press conference.

"Nottingham Forest are well known to be very interested in Bakary Sako prior to the close of the summer transfer window and have continued with that interest."

Behind the scenes, Wolves acknowledge that the Frenchman has applied himself diligently to the team's cause this season while continuing to hold out hope that he could move a step nearer his ambition of playing in the Premier League by joining one of the Championship's promotion favourites.

I understand he has been kept informed throughout of the continued discussions between Wolves and Forest while it is also known his agent has interrupted a family holiday to try to drive through a deal.

But Wolves have so far failed to have been satisfied by what Forest are putting on the table and there remain grave doubts at Molineux that their demands will be met. Without that, the club insists Sako will stay.

Owner Steve Morgan has already hinted strongly at his irritation at how Forest handled their side of the negotiations revealing in an exclusive Express & Star interview last month that he would not do business "with a gun held to his head" or with "people who can't seem to make up their minds."
