Wolves boosted by Leigh Griffiths return
Leigh Griffiths was set to boost Wolves by returning to training today as the club try to nurse both him and Kevin Doyle back to fitness for Saturday's visit of Sheffield United.
Wolves' joint four-goal top scorer limped out of Saturday's 1-0 win at Shrewsbury Town after 66 minutes with an ankle injury.
But, with head coach Kenny Jackett non-committal on Doyle's recovery from the thigh strain that kept him out of action at the Greenhous Meadow at the weekend, he was at least more optimistic on the chances of Griffiths taking part.
"I think he should train today – that's the plan," said Jackett.
"It's just swelling on the ankle that we anticipate has gone down, whereas with Doyle, it's a thigh strain that showed up a very small tear on the scan.
"It's muscular which may be a bit more difficult.
"As soon as the swelling from Griffiths' ankle goes down, he'll be OK.
"There's no damage to his ligaments.
"So we'll see by the middle or the end of this week on Kevin.
"He's not training yet but he's got a chance of making Saturday's game."
Meanwhile, Jackett steered clear of saying out-of-sorts midfielder David Davis would have followed Lee Evans out of the team if he hadn't been suspended this weekend after his fifth booking of the season.
"We'll see – that's reviewable game by game," he said.
"He's not available due to suspension this weekend and we'll see what type of reaction the players put in, because – while we think we can play better than we have – we also have to consider the motivation level of the opposition. No-one ever said it would be easy and that's proving to be the case."
But Jackett highlighted the depth of determination in the camp to see Wolves back to winning ways after the first defeat of the season against Walsall a week ago.
"The drive of the team is considerable, and we shouldn't underestimate that," he added.
n League One leaders Leyton Orient continued their 100 per cent start to the season last night, beating Brentford 2-0 to notch up their eighth successive victory.
