Leigh Griffiths told to keep on entertaining at Wolves

With long-suffering Wolves supporters desperate for a idol again after successive relegations and a breakdown of the relationship between the players and fanbase, Griffiths has emerged as a talisman.

The Scotland international has scored four goals already this season and cemented his place in gold and black folklore by nutmegging Lee Hughes and mimicking his goal celebration in Saturday's 3-1 win at Port Vale.

"Leigh has a lot of personality about him which does come out on the pitch," said Jackett.

"That's important – you need to show your personality and he has a very confident one.

"He needs to find a balance but we want him to show that personality on the pitch - it's not something I want to stifle.

"There's no way I'd want to temper that whatsoever.

"And then he has to be good team-mate, a good team member and someone who contributes on a regular basis and he's done all of those things so far.

"But for Leigh they have set off on the right footing."

Griffiths has also urged the crowd to get behind the team at different times, before he took the winning penalty against Crawley and when he took a corner at Vale.

Jackett sees the striker's actions as an extension of his aim to rebuild the relationship between players and fans.

"To be a successful side, you need that relationship between the supporters and the players," said the head coach.

"The biggest thing he can do to engage with the fans is score goals and probably the second biggest is to create goals.

"So we shouldn't lose sight of those facts.

"But players and supporters need to react off each other well.

"You have to constantly work at that – it doesn't just come.

"But he's in a very good place in terms of his own career and his confidence levels.

"For any centre forward to play in the first four to six games and get off the mark healthily does help you going through the season, definitely.

"He's a hardworking pro and we haven't had any trouble with him whatsoever internally."
