Bakary Sako set to stay at Wolves as Georg Margreitter leaves
Wolves today edged closer to keeping star winger Bakary Sako at Molineux as defender Georg Margreitter headed for a reunion with Stale Solbakken at FC Copenhagen.
Sako ruled himself out of Saturday's 3-1 win at Port Vale after telling head coach Kenny Jackett he "wasn't in the right frame of mind to play".
He was expected to leave on transfer deadline day but as the clock ticked down towards the 11pm cut-off point his options were appearing to dwindle.
Long-time admirers Fulham and Nottingham Forest continued to be put off by Wolves' £4m price-tag for the France Under-21 international, while late interest in the 25-year-old from former Wolves boss Solbakken at FC Copenhagen appears to have stalled.
Solbakken would be only willing to pay closer to £1m for the player he brought to the West Midlands from St Etienne in a £2.2m deal 12 months ago.
However, Solbakken is close to re-signing Margreitter who was this afternoon heading to Denmark to sign a season-long loan deal.
Solbakken signed the defender from Austria Vienna for £1.8m last year.
Forest had a bid of around £2.5m for Sako rejected last week, and this afternoon the chances of them upping the offer closer to Wolves' asking price were diminishing.
Jackett said: "We had an offer from Nottingham Forest which was nowhere near our valuation.
"We're not close to agreeing a fee. He's aware of the interest and he wasn't in the right frame of mind to play. Those were his words, not mine. But I've got assurances that should tomorrow morning come and he's still a Wolves player, he'll be 100 per cent committed."
