Experience key as Kevin Davies leads Preston threat
Kevin Davies can emerge as the "personality of Preston's team" according to Kenny Jackett.
The Wolves head coach is convinced his defence needs to be extra-vigilant to prevent the 36-year-old former England international, who has joined from Bolton, wreaking havoc at Deepdale tomorrow.
Davies has caused Wolves plenty of problems before, notably in March 2012 when he left Roger Johnson on the seat of his pants as he waltzed through to score in Bolton's 3-1 win.
"He brings a wealth of experience and a goal threat," said Jackett, whose captain Sam Ricketts played with Davies at the Reebok.
"If they get crosses in we have to make sure we mark him very well.
"I'm sure he'll be a focal point and a strong personality in the team and every side needs that personality as much as ability. Davies will bring that. But whoever you are, sides have a threat.
"He happens to be theirs, as well as Iain Hume, Lee Holmes, Chris Humphrey and perhaps Stuart Beavon, if he's fit.
"They're the type of guys who they'll be looking to start their season and get themselves in the Championship, which is where they want to be."
Preston boss Simon Grayson believes the presence of Wolves will make League One stronger.
The former Villa defender takes his side into battle in the most high-profile fixture in League One tomorrow. And the ex-Blackpool, Leeds and Huddersfield chief reckons it is a more competitive third tier.
"It will be a strong division," said Grayson. "This time two years ago, Wolves were preparing for a Premier League game; Peterborough have been in the Championship a few times and Bristol City are a big club.
"Then there are the four clubs coming up with the momentum of promotion, so it will be tough."
