Leigh Griffiths reminds Wolves boss Kenny Jackett of Kevin Phillips

Wolves head coach Kenny Jackett today claimed Leigh Griffiths has a similar single-minded streak to Kevin Phillips.

Griffiths scored within three minutes of coming on in the first friendly against East Fife, which Wolves won 3-2, before missing a hatful of chances in Saturday's 2-1 win against his first club Livingston.

But it didn't seem to affect the 22-year-old, who scored 28 goals on loan for Hibernian last season.

Griffiths reminds Jackett of evergreen former Albion, Villa and Birmingham striker Phillips, who he coached at Watford as a youngster. "As a forward you can't afford to allow the thought of missing one chance creeping into the next," he said.

"I worked with Kevin Phillips quite a few years ago and even as a youngster, he always felt he'd score the next one, and that's a good thing to have.

"You should never worry about missing chances if you're a centre forward but you should worry if you don't get any chances.

"It's early days but I've been impressed by Leigh. He had a lot of chances on Saturday and he looks to be a good player.

"He looks like he's an addition for us and I'm looking forward to working with him. If we can create the amount of chances that we did on Saturday, he'll be fine."

Griffiths was lucky to escape punishment when he reacted to Jason Talbot's late challenge on him by going head to head with the defender. Jackett is confident the hitman can control his temper.

"I hope he can," he said. "He's 22 and he'll come through his problems. He just has to concentrate on the pitch and I feel he has considerable talent. He's been with us for a week and he's been impressive."

Wolves put the disappointment of leaking Marc McNulty's 12th-minute opener to win 2-1 with goals from George Elokobi and David Davis but they could have scored many more.

Jackett added: "Livingston were good and they started very well – much better than us – but halfway through the first half, we came on strong.

"It was a good pitch, good stadium and a good few fans as well made it a good atmosphere for a pre-season friendly and we were very pleased with it."
