Wolves celebrate Sherpa Van Trophy final 25th
Wolves today unveiled plans to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Sherpa Van Trophy final to coincide with this weekend's clash against Burnley.
Players who figured in the 1988 final at Wembley – which Wolves won 2-0 against the Clarets – have been invited to Saturday's game.
And, to mark the occasion, some Wolves players from that special day will be introduced to the crowd prior to kick-off.
Currently confirmed to attend are Steve Bull, Andy Thompson, captain Ally Robertson, Floyd Streete, Mick Holmes and Mark Kendall's widow Gaynor.
The club has secured the Sherpa Van Trophy on loan from the Football League.
Fans visiting the Wolves Museum can secure their pictures with the trophy and, possibly get autographs from the players – subject to availability and demand – from 12pm to 1pm on Saturday.
The trophy will be displayed in the Wolves Museum until June 7, giving fans plenty of opportunity to see it, along with the rest of the Wolves Museum.
More than 80,000 fans watched the final between what was then two Fourth Division clubs.
Some 50,000 Wolves fans filled Wembley with a sea of gold and black, just two years after the club was faced with extinction, when Wolves went bankrupt for the second time in four years.
