Dean Saunders believes Wolves can survive

Manager Dean Saunders today insisted all is not lost in Wolves' survival bid as they prepare for Saturday's potential 'do or die' clash against Burnley.

Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Charlton coupled with Huddersfield's 3-0 victory over Millwall left Wolves back in the drop zone on goal difference.

They sit below Peterborough, whose 10-match unbeaten run was ended in a 3-1 loss at Derby.

Substitute Jonathan Obika's 90th-minute winner stunned Wolves at The Valley after Kevin Doyle's ninth goal of the season headed them level three minutes after Dorian Dervite's 63rd-minute opener.

Wolves can't be relegated on Saturday but if they lose this weekend and Peterborough, Blackburn and Huddersfield all triumph, only a victory at Brighton, defeats for their rivals and a massive swing in goal difference would save them.

Saunders said: "It's sickening, really, but all is not lost.Other results have kept us in it – this week it could all reverse again. We have to beat Burnley and we can because we've dug results out at times nobody thought we would.

"The players believe they can do it and it's all to play for."

Saunders stressed the importance of beating Burnley. "It's crucial now," he admitted. "If we can win we've got a great chance of staying up."

Former boss Mick McCarthy, meanwhile, today took a swipe at Wolves after making Ipswich virtually safe in the Championship.

Ipswich are 14th and six points clear of the drop zone with two games left.

Asked what he had done to inspire the transformation, McCarthy said: "What I've changed I don't know, because I don't know what went on before.

"Sometimes it just doesn't work at a club and you have to leave. Sometimes it's working and you still have to leave! I've had that happen to me (at Wolves). Looking at it now I think I was right.

"Me and TC (assistant Terry Connor) are a good partnership. We work well with the players."
