Wolves handed Carl Ikeme boost
Carl Ikeme today handed Wolves a welcome boost when he declared he should be fit for Saturday's clash at Bristol City.
The in-form keeper was forced off during Tuesday's 1-0 defeat to Millwall with a dislocated little finger, handing Dorus De Vries his first league action since May.
But Ikeme has made a good recovery from the injury and should be OK to continue this weekend at Ashton Gate as Wolves look to end their nine-match winless run.
"With a little bit of luck I'll be involved," said the 26-year-old. "I went to collect a high ball and my finger came into collision with Roger's head.
"When the physio first came on, he popped it back into place and I thought I'd be OK to carry on."
Ikeme initially carried on playing after the setback before being forced off in the 66th minute when his right hand went numb.
"What eventually forced me off wasn't so much the pain, but the loss of feeling in my hand – it just went completely numb," he said.
"It was a tight match and I didn't want to risk letting the team down when we had a perfectly fit keeper on the bench in Dorus.
"So I decided it would be best if I came off, even though I didn't really want to.
"We were all bitterly disappointed in the dressing room afterwards but now we can only look forward to Bristol City at the weekend and hopefully turn things around."
Wolves welcome back captain Karl Henry this weekend after his three-match ban. But they are still without up to nine players, including Tongo Doumbia through fatigue.
