Carl Ikeme adds to Wolves' injury woes

Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme today became the club's 10th injury casualty after adding to the Molineux misery in the game against Millwall.

The in-form No 1 dislocated a finger in his right hand after colliding with the back of Roger Johnson's head as he came through a ruck of players to punch a ball in the second-half of the 1-0 defeat last night.

Ikeme is almost certainly out of Saturday's Championship clash at Bristol City as Wolves try to end their nine-match winless run.

The injury meant Wolves' only other fit senior goalkeeper Dorus De Vries was forced into his first league action since May after coming on as a 66th minute substitute.

With Ikeme unlikely to be fit for the trip to Ashton Gate, Wolves now have to weigh whether to sign an emergency loan goalkeeper.

They could also use an untried youngster on the bench such as academy prospect Jonathan Flatt as Aaron McCarey – who watched last night's game – is on loan at Walsall.

Manager Stale Solbakken said: "I didn't speak to Carl after the game but I saw him going into the doctor's office.

"We need a goalkeeper with two hands and he couldn't use more than one. Hopefully, it's not a very big injury because he continued to play for a while – we will see today."

Wolves welcome captain Karl Henry back for the trip to Bristol but they are still without goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey, Georg Margreitter, Razak Boukari, Slawomir Peszko, Stephen Hunt, Steve Mouyokolo, Jamie and George Elokobi.

Another player, Tongo Doumbia, was rested last night due to mental and physical fatigue.

Solbakken admitted he would prefer players to be allowed to rediscover their form away from the glare of the first-team spotlight but is being forced to play them.

He said: "People could be rested then and able to find their form without being pushed when they are not at their best.

"At the moment, if players are struggling physically or mentally we can't really rest them."
