Christophe Berra puts new Wolves contract talks on ice

Transfer-listed Wolves defender Christophe Berra today shelved contract talks until the new year as he looks to make the most of his red-card reprieve against Nottingham Forest tomorrow.

Boss Stale Solbakken said tentative talks had been held with the Scotland international, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

But the 27-year-old is happy to concentrate on his football after his sending off at Watford last Saturday was rescinded by the FA on appeal this week.

"Come the new year we might talk about the contract," said Berra. "I've improved under the new gaffer – I've maybe taken on more responsibility to do the things he wants because he wants us to pass it more.

"He's helped my game and long may it continue.

"He isn't afraid of us losing the ball now and then so long as we attempt those passes between the lines into Bakary Sako that we've been trying."

Berra insists Wolves can pick up maximum points from the next two home games, with Millwall to follow on Tuesday, if they stick to their principles.

"We've only been beaten once at home, but maybe we've had too many draws," he said. "Now we've got two home games in a row; Forest have spent a bit of money so that's going to be difficult.

"But if we keep doing the things the gaffer wants, we should be OK. We want to get into those play-off spots – if we even win two games in a row, we can get up there."

Midfielder Dave Edwards believes Wolves can use the positive support of the fans to go on a six-match winning run. "Seeing the fans like they have been is a great help," he said. "That support is going to get us out of the rut we're in. It will definitely turn soon."
