Kevin Doyle hits back at Wolves critics
Kevin Doyle today responded to the Wolves doom-mongers by insisting boss Stale Solbakken is the most attack-minded manager he has ever played for.
Solbakken came in for his first criticism from some fans after Tuesday's 2-2 draw against Bolton for making safety-first substitutions to try to protect a 2-1 lead.
Doyle and fellow striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake were sacrificed for Richard Stearman and Bjorn Sigurdarson. Dave Edwards replaced the tiring Jermaine Pennant before Mark Davies' 90th-minute leveller.
But Doyle, who scored twice in three minutes to put Wolves ahead, said Solbakken thinks more about attacking football than anyone else who has managed him – including Steve Coppell, Mick McCarthy, Steve Staunton and Giovanni Trapattoni.
"When we're playing well, we play some good stuff and that's what happened in the first half against Bolton," said Doyle.
"This manager probably emphasises it more than any other manager I've played under about how he wants us to go forwards and play football, not just about how we defend.
"It's exciting to hear these new ideas, and it's the most I've heard of that sort of thing in my career, so we need to translate that onto the pitch.
"Players are getting more comfortable with the ball and they're not afraid to have it in tight situations."
