Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey today insisted he won't be driven out by fans and will remain at Molineux to lead a promotion assault next season.

Moxey has borne the brunt of fans' criticism before and after relegation from the Premier League was confirmed by Sunday's 2-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Supporters chanted for his removal at the final whistle, while internet rumours suggest he will return to the United States where he once worked to take over a similar role in an American sport.

But Moxey, who has been at Wolves for 12 years, quashed the speculation and said he has no plans to leave the club.

"I'm sure I will be at Molineux at the start of next season, hopefully with a team competitive enough to win promotion," said Moxey.

"I'm aware of the speculation about my future but the rumours are untrue.

"While no one wants to receive negative comments from fans, it comes with the territory and I accept that's the job I've got.

"In football, someone has to be blamed and held to account and although it's not what I'd want, I take it on the chin. I am big enough, ugly enough and experienced enough to know what happens. For me, it's not a big deal.

"It's better me getting stick than the players."

Meanwhile, Moxey warned fans not to expect things to be easier in the Championship next season.

"We're under no illusions as to how difficult it will be, when you consider the other teams going down, and the promoted teams coming into the Championship," he said.

"It will be as difficult as any season anyone has seen.

"It's 46 games of hard graft with everyone trying to beat us and there are also the expectation levels to cope with.

"But fans can rest assured we'll pick ourselves up and approach the challenges that lie ahead head on.

"And we will do it with as much vigour and enthusiasm as we can."
