Former Wolves striker Don Goodman fears the club will struggle to survive, despite the decision to sack Mick McCarthy.
The ex-Molineux forward believes his former club are in line to be relegated regardless of the man in charge because of the desperate run of results that led to McCarthy's sacking.
The former boss left yesterday with his side in the bottom three on goal difference with just 21 points from 25 games.
And Goodman is concerned for the rest of the season, irrespective of who wins the race to success McCarthy.
Goodman said: "The board of directors have sent a signal by changing the manager that something needs to change and it wasn't a major surprise with the results they've been having, especially in the derby on Sunday. But I think they are in a real predicament.
"I don't think you could bring in Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola or all three at the same time and expect them to turn things around automatically.
"With the greatest of respect, they are going to have to work with the same players who have been there all season. People will hope that a change of voice does the trick, but I do have some serious doubts about whether that will be enough."
"If you asked me whether Wolves can get to 40 points I would have to say 'no.
"The one hope you would give them is that if there's one year when they might not need 40 points to stay up this could be it because there are four other teams down there struggling badly too."
