Knee casualty Ronald Zubar resumed ballwork yesterday but Jamie O'Hara, who is recovering from a double hernia operation, will be out for another one to two weeks.
As reported in later editions of yesterday's Express & Star, Frimpong is hopeful of being fit to face the Reds a week tonight.
He expects to receive the go-ahead to resume training on Friday after further tests showed he hasn't damaged the left eye caught by an accidental kick by Villa midfielder Stiliyan Petrov in Saturday's 3-2 defeat.
"Frimpong will be OK for Liverpool," said boss Mick McCarthy.
"He went to hospital with the doctor yesterday and he'll be fine. He'll go to see a specialist on Thursday and I expect him to train on Friday, so fingers crossed, he'll be fine. There's no damage to his eye, he's just got a bruised face."
O'Hara was expected to be out for six weeks and has missed the last seven games after succumbing to the problem last month.
He tweeted yesterday: "Kicking a ball today, feel good, I've ticked every box just the long striking where I'm still getting problems, not far away from now."
But McCarthy was more cautious, and ruled him out of Tuesday's clash against Liverpool. "He won't be ready for Liverpool – he's going to be another week to two weeks yet," said the boss.
Zubar damaged knee ligaments in the 1-1 draw at Arsenal last month. But he is on the mend, after tweeting yesterday: "I touch the ball this morning. Very happy."
