Christophe Berra set for Wolves milestone

Defender Christophe Berra prepares for a milestone this weekend insisting the search to be Mr Consistent continues.
The 26-year-old, who was today linked with Premier League rivals Newcastle, Bolton and Blackburn, is preparing to make his 100th Wolves league appearance at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. Berra has played more league games for Wolves than anyone else apart from Matt Jarvis since they won promotion in May 2009.
And the Scotland international, who has less than 18 months left on his contract, has been one of Wolves' most solid players in 2011-12. But the burly stopper, who signed from Hearts for £2.3m in January 2009, admits the fight to be consistent continues.
"I think I've improved every season I've been here and I want to keep on getting better," said Berra.
"As a defender you base your game on consistency – if you give seven out of 10 performances rather than floating up and down too much, you're giving yourself a steady base to work off.
"Don't get me wrong, I'll make mistakes but that's part and parcel of football and it happens with the position I play.
"If you're a defender or the last line of defence, 80 or 90 per cent of the time if you slip or miss a tackle it's going to end up in the back of the net.
"So errors always get highlighted a lot, whereas if you miss a good chance, sometimes that's forgotten. But that's part of being a keeper or a defender."
Despite being a regular, it's taken time for Berra to win over the Molineux fans.
And he believes the key is remaining thick-skinned to take the rough with the smooth, knowing you can't please everyone all the time.
"I know I'm not everyone's favourite – some think 'Berra's rubbish' but then others say 'I think you're a good player who's done well'," he said.
"You take the good with the bad and move on.
"As a professional sportsman, they will always be people judging you. But if you remain thick-skinned and keep on concentrating, you will have more good times than bad ones. I've got pride in myself and I want to keep doing better."
Berra's century for Wolves comes after he recently passed the 250 mark for club games.
And he sees only good times ahead with his peak years ahead of him.
"As a centre-half, you're at your so-called peak from the ages of 28-32," he said.
"I'm 26 and hopefully I've still got many years ahead of me at the highest level."
