Wolves captain Roger Johnson is a lifelong Chelsea fan – but there's nothing he'd like more than to heap misery on his boyhood club.

The 28-year-old even has a slab of concrete from the legendary Shed terrace at home and is a big fan of Blues' opposite number John Terry.

All that goes out of the window for 90 minutes tomorrow, however, when he will be trying to carve his own bit of history for Wolves tomorrow, who are seeking their first win at Stamford Bridge since 1979.

Johnson said: "Chelsea are a big part of my life, but the gloves are off tomorrow. I'm from Ashford in Middlesex, so they were my local team.

"My dad is a Chiswick lad so we used to go with my two brothers and my mum – all five of us were season ticket holders. We used to go in the big family stand where the directors are.

"I had a season ticket for 10 years so, being a Chelsea fan, to go to where I used to watch them for years is a special occasion."

Roman Abramovich's millions mean Chelsea is a very different club to the one Johnson used to go as a youngster.

So it's perhaps no surprise to learn the defender is still seeking his first point there as a player after 3-1 and 3-0 defeats with Birmingham.

He said: "Hopefully I can come back with something this time. We're going to be written off but we might catch them on an off-day and can nick something."

Four defeats in the last seven games for Chelsea has heaped pressure on new boss Andre Villas-Boas and Johnson believes that could work either way for Wolves.

But the stopper stressed they must remain in the game for as long as possible if they are to avoid defeat.

He said: "It could be a good time to play them or a bad time, because we might feel the backlash of some of their recent results.

"They will be feeling the pressure and the critics are on the backs of the team and the manager. Their fans might start getting a bit hostile if things aren't going for them.

"We're down there scrapping for our lives but just because we're going to Chelsea doesn't mean we're writing ourselves off.

"There's no fear but staying in the game is the big key for us. The longer it goes without them scoring, the more anxious people will become and we believe we can get something out of the game."

As captain, Johnson is aware he carries more responsibility than most.

And the skipper is relieved to have rediscovered his own form after admitting to some soul-searching when he fell below the standards he set for himself.

He said: "I've got to rally the boys and, as captain, I'll try to give as much information and encouragement as I can.

"My game has to be spot-on, but you've got to do it for yourself – I know my own standards and I was performing below them.

"If I could put my finger on what happened, I wouldn't have been playing like that. I tried to have a think about what it was but things just weren't going for me.

"But you have to be your own harshest critic otherwise no one else will help you."

Johnson's form started coming together at Manchester City, when he was Wolves' best player in a game the Premier League leaders were flattered to win 3-1.

And the £4.5million summer arrival is hoping the chance to play another of the top teams keeps him at the top of his game.

He said: "Although there were a few mistakes in recent weeks, I feel as if I'm back to my true self and hopefully I'll have a good game tomorrow.

"I needed a performance from myself, so from the Man City game onwards, I think I'm back, certainly more than I was.

"That will come with games. We put in a good shift at City and probably should have got something out of the game, we beat Wigan when everyone was superb and then we were hard done by at Everton.

"I'm pleased my bad run of form has come to an end but we need some more points on the board."
