Wolves new-boy Matt Doherty revealed he meant to grab Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard's shirt at Anfield – but the red mist got the better of him.

The 19-year-old Dubliner became the club's youngest debutant in the rebranded top flight, coming off the bench at half-time of the 2-1 defeat on Saturday.

And the level-headed Doherty – a boyhood Arsenal fan – is happy to keep his shirt in the family rather than hang it on his wall.

He said: "I was going to ask for Steven Gerrard's shirt – but I forgot because we had lost and I was a bit angry.

"I've got a few jerseys and haven't had those signed and this one's a bit more special.

"I'm going to keep my shirt from the game but I don't know whether I'll get the lads to sign it.

"I'm an Arsenal fan but my sister Rachel supports Liverpool, so I might give it to her."
