Wolves manager Mick McCarthy today warned his side 'don't become heroic failures.'

Saturday's 2-0 reverse to Tottenham was Wolves' first defeat this season and came after they were well in contention for an hour, with the first goal against the run of play.

And McCarthy doesn't want a return to Wolves' first season back in the Premier League two years ago, when the team sometimes returned empty-handed having been praised by the opposition.

He said: "We played well but we lost and I don't want to be that team we were two years ago when we had heroic failure.

"When you're playing well and having as much of the game as the opposition, you need to take your chances or create one you can get a goal from.

"For 70 minutes we were right in it and if we'd have scored when we had the chances, we could have nicked something."

"In those last 20 minutes we were made to look a bit daft and not as good as we'd played in the first 70."
