Roger Johnson has insisted he won't let Wolves down after declaring it a "great honour" to be club captain.

The £4.5m summer signing will officially lead the team out for the first time in Saturday's friendly against Real Zaragoza at Molineux, after replacing Karl Henry as skipper.

And the 28-year-old defender immediately expressed his gratitude for receiving the chance to lead the team out.

Johnson said: "It's amazing, to be honest. I had it at Wycombe before and a spell at Cardiff but to be made captain here after only being here a short while is unbelievable.

"It's a great honour and I'm over the moon. I've always been a vocal player – that's just how I am – and the gaffer has clearly seen something which he likes.

"I'm really grateful to be given the chance to be captain of such a good team and such a good group of lads and I'm not going to let them down."

Johnson insists having the armband will make no difference his performances.

He said: "It's not going to affect how I play. There's probably bit more stuff behind the scenes I'll have to do but nothing will change on the pitch.

"Yo will get the same out of me whether I am captain or not – there are just those other things behind the scenes which I'll have to pick up.

"It's not just having the armband on that allows players to have their say."
