Matt Jarvis told to follow Ashley Young
Wolves' star winger Matt Jarvis was today challenged to follow Ashley Young's lead and reap the benefit of playing for England.
Wolves' star winger Matt Jarvis was today challenged to follow Ashley Young's lead and reap the benefit of playing for England.
Manager Mick McCarthy believes Jarvis will embrace the extra pressure that comes from being an England international, just like Young, who moved from Villa to Manchester United for £17million this summer.
The 25-year-old became the first Wolves player since Steve Bull in 1990 to represent England in March.
Jarvis' form dipped after his appearance against Ghana, but McCarthy is convinced he will show why he remains in Fabio Capello's thoughts.
The Wolves boss said: "Of course he will cope. Martin O'Neill said that about Ashley Young – how well has he done since?
"Matt will handle it – he's got a great temperament. He's very humble even though he got into the England team.
"It does make a difference though because all of a sudden he's not 'Matt Jarvis that little lad you had from Gillingham', he's actually 'Matt Jarvis, England international' now."
