New keeper Dorus De Vries today hit back at the criticism he received from Swansea by insisting he was swayed by Wolves' profile.

De Vries was set to make his Wolves debut this afternoon in the team's opening friendly at Crewe after leaving Swansea with a trail of harsh words from his old boss Brendan Rodgers. The 30-year-old Dutchman was accused by Rodgers of moving to become an understudy to Wayne Hennessey.

"He decided to go and be a No. 2 goalkeeper in the Premier League rather than a No. 1 goalkeeper in the Premier League," said Rodgers.

But De Vries, who signed a three-year deal, is determined to challenge Hennessey and says he moved for the fresh challenge.

"If you look at the whole club, Wolves are a club now where Swansea can be in a couple of years in terms of the facilities," said the keeper.

"Wolves have already got those fundamental things needed in place. They've got that edge in terms of Premier League experience, training facilities, and with the stadium upgrade to 40,000."

De Vries said he understood Rodgers' frustration after his former manager thought he was re-signing with the Swans.

"I thought that was pretty harsh from the manager, but that was his decision," he said.
