Portugal international Eduardo Carvalho today emerged as a potential target for Albion as they stepped up their goalkeeper hunt.

Reports from Italy claim the Baggies have enquired about loaning the 28-year-old from Genoa, as they step up their search for Scott Carson's replacement.

The Baggies were also linked with a move for Brazilian keeper Julio Sergio, of Roma, while ex-Hawthorns man Tomasz Kuszczak remains on the radar.

Albion boss Roy Hodgson needs at least one new goalkeeper after cutting his losses on Carson, who completed his £1.5million move to Turkish club Bursaspor at the weekend.

And Eduardo, who was Portugal's No 1 during last summer's World Cup in South Africa and has more than 30 international caps, today became the latest man to be linked with a switch to the Hawthorns.

Genoa are willing to loan him out to pave the way for their own goalkeeping shake-up.

The 6ft 1in tall shot-stopper joined the Italians for £3.5million from Braga last summer but had a mixed season in Serie A.

Sergio was also mentioned today as a potential signing, although sources in Italy claim Roma would demand a hefty fee for the 32-year-old.

The 6ft tall Brazilian has been with Roma since 2006 but has spent much of his time as an understudy.

The Baggies might still sign two new goalkeepers with Carson having left and goalkeeping coach Dean Kiely retired from playing.

That leaves Boaz Myhill and youngster Luke Daniels as the only goalkeepers in Roy Hodgson's squad a week ahead of their departure for their pre-season trip to the United States.

Myhill, who was axed when Hodgson arrived in February, is unlikely to start the season as No.1.

Kuszczak is being monitored with the Pole certain to leave Manchester United this summer, while Albion have also enquired about West Ham's Rob Green and Newcastle's Steve Harper.

Meanwhile, West Ham midfielder Jack Collison is also being monitored, while Youssouf Mulumbu today played down speculation linking him with an exit.
